Charging for Picks 11/16/14 (more...)

NEVER pay for picks. I will NEVER charge for picks. Not that I cannot. I can make more money that way. I have been presented with some very lucrative offers to provide my picks for a fee. I continue to just say NO!
When you are charging for picks you will create picks for the sake of action whether there is value or not. After all that is how you make money; in my opinion it is a clear conflict of interest.

Bad Beats 11/09/14 (more...)

We all get them. They are part of the tax we pay in this business for turning a profit. Let us be clear about this topic. Bad beats DO NOT even out. Yes you will win some games you do not deserve to win however the bad beats will outnumber those so called lucky wins. Understand you should expect to win every game you bet otherwise obviously why bet it. However when you win as a skilled experienced handicapper most of the time you will cash because of solid handicapping.

The Contrarian Approach 11/02/14 (more...)

We all know the key to successful handicapping is to find value. In a macro simplistic rule of thumb what you want to do; when everyone is jumping on a team you want to get off. When everyone is jumping off a team they are down on for a recent performance you want to jump on them whenever possible. This is what investing is all about. Buy low sell high I am sure you have all heard that before.
This is how you acquire value. Look for teams that are winning but when you look under the hood you find misleading results. For example:

NHL Betting NO Overtime NO Shootouts 10/05/14 (more...)

The NHL regular season gets underway this week. For those of you that have been following me for a while this Grapevine will act as a reminder for those of you new please take note. As is detailed on the NHL page of my website, ALL NHL bets are for regulation time ONLY. I am not interested in risking money on a 4 on 4 overtime which is basically shinny or even worse a shootout which is nothing more than a glorified skills competition. Could you imagine an MLB game tied being decided by a home run hitting contest.

MUST Wins 09/28/14 (more...)

Betting on a team because they HAVE to win ranks right up there with all the useless trends touts like to quote that goes back 2 years or longer. Who cares what happened with this matchup 2 years or 5 years ago the teams and situations were completely different. In fact sometimes the matchup of 2 teams that played 1 month ago becomes irrelevant if there was a major injury or situational issue different from the first game.

Lead Do Not Follow 09/21/14 (more...)

With the football season just underway you are going to find a handful of games each week both in NCAAF and NFL where there is big movement in a line in one direction. It is a “sheep” game. What happens a key syndicate gets out in the lead and pounds it. After that the herd mentality takes place and everyone jumps on it.
That is not to say as the line continues to move in one direction that it is the wrong direction. What I am saying just as many times the move is right as it is wrong.

VICTORY for Sports Bettors 09/14/14 (more...)

Sports bettors everywhere are pinching themselves after an underdog victory came through in a backdoor cover that caught the industry by surprise.
As of Monday, sports betting is legal in a state other than Nevada - and we're not just talking about parlays.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's office issued a statement on Monday making the news official and Attorney General John Hoffman has filed a motion in US District Court asking it to clarify the injunction on sports betting made in February of 2013.
