Review your bets improve your process

Those of you who are regular readers of my Grapevines know how much I stress the importance of post-game review of bets. It keeps you sharp it helps you evaluate teams moving forward and most importantly avoids you making the same mistakes over and over again.

The post-game review is NOT a timely process. So here is a very brief checklist.

  1. Did I get a good number? In other words closing line value (CLV) If you bet at -4.0 and the line closed at -5.5 great job. No one beats the closing line 100% of the time. However if you are constantly betting a game at -4.0 and it closes -1.5 you need to STOP and re-evaluate. You’re overall handicapping, your timing of the market and are you dealing with enough sports books to effectively line shop.
  2. Would I make this bet again regardless of the result if all the variables were the same?
  3. Is there something I missed in my handicapping?

Follow this checklist trust YOUR process depending on your answers to the above questions. Do not let short term bad beats losing streaks affect your approach if you are confident you are on the right path.
