Bettors often fall into the trap of looking at the team name, logo or color of the jerseys. Just because a team was great last year or even 1 month ago is NOT relevant TODAY. ALL teams good and bad go through peaks and valleys over the course of a long season.
Focus on current results the last 5 games in particular. Once you hit the one quarter pole of a season year to date stats are as meaningless as trends.
Analyze a game as if it were team A vs. team B. This will have you set a more accurate number on the game and in turn help you get a more accurate indication of value.

Remember a unit is 2% of your bankroll. Your bankroll is the unencumbered amount of money you have allocated to this business. It is not money you need for essentials such as food or housing. Your unit is the amount you RISK on each play not the amount you can win. Flat betting risking the same amount on each game is the only way to long term success in this business.

Another tool in your handicapping chest is to know your coaches. Good coaches are tough to beat especially down the stretch of a close game. Bad coaches will beat themselves. Great coaches are even rarer. So when you get a chance to bet on them in a favorable spot you should take advantage of the opportunity. Smart coaches bring discipline defense and sound fundamentals. They know not to over coach and have an innate ability to close out games effectively.

As some of you are aware I do not bet totals in MLB, NHL, NCAAB. In my opinion too many variables out of our control (too many to list for the grapevine) after we place the bet that will prevent us from turning a profit long term.
However in the NFL NCAAF and NBA totals are beatable. More specifically if you want long term success be an under bettor.
It is easier to find value with an under than an over:
1)People like scoring they bet overs.

Without a doubt one of the most common mistakes players make is pressing, chasing raising their unit when losing. There are always going to be times when you lose more than you win. We have had an outstanding first half to the 2014 betting year. Every month has been profitable other than May. MLB results are not where they are usually but there is much schedule left this year and the story is far from over.
The close of the baseball menu today will bring us to the all-star break. Monday July 14 up to and including Thursday July 17 there will be no games (at least the sports we bet on) no plays and no email alerts. I will be back with you on Friday July 18.

Shocking breaking news most casual bettors do not make money from sports betting. This is not a terrible thing. If every bettor won there would be no sports books left to pay us out.
