Better late than never the shortened NBA season begins today. There have been many roster moves with many key players changing uniforms due to economic reasons. There will be occasions where teams will play 3 games in 3 days with the compacted schedule.
Play will be erratic will be ragged with only a 2 game exhibition season. New coaches trying to introduce new systems with many new players will make for a very unique adjustment period.

As most of the subscribers know who have been with me more than 1 year record keeping is essential in this business just like a conventional business. How the heck do you improve, set goals, budget; know when to raise your unit if you do not have detailed accurate records. It would be like operating a business and never producing financial statements.

Must Win - Revenge Situations 12/04/11 (more...)

Must wins and revenge situations are 2 of the bigger myths and useless angles in all of sports betting. Just because a team “must win” does not mean they will win and more importantly that they will cover. The line maker will shade the line to the must win team knowing the public is going to jump all over them so first off you are going to be paying a premium if you choose to bet that side.

Sports Wagering Strategy 11/27/11 (more...)

You must develop a disciplined methodical approach to sports betting. ALWAYS do your work or trust someone who does. Obviously I lose games from bad beats, bad reads etc. However I can emphatically say I NEVER lose a game because I did not do my work. My work would include the regular number crunching and analysis. As well as taking into account ALL the intangibles which is more important than the number crunching. Any doorknob can work a calculator and punch out a result. Even if you crunch the numbers properly guess what those numbers are already incorporated into the bookmakers line.

Line Knowledge 11/20/2011 (more...)

A common misconception of the inexperienced sports bettor is what the point spread represents. The myth is that the point spread is a prediction of who will win and by how much. The main purpose of the line is to split the betting action equally on each side. This rarely happens which is why the line is constantly moving after it is posted to attract money to one side or the other. Understanding the art and science of the point spread formulation and movement is essential to being a successful handicapper.

LONG-TERM CONSISTENCY / NHL / NCAAB 11/13/11(more...)

Long term consistency is what every professional handicapper strives for. I know it is
hard when you are on an extended losing streak to keep your spirits up. However
realize these streaks happen to everybody, you MUST keep your composure do not
force plays and keep your eye on the big picture that being yearly results.

Understanding “Hot Streaks” 10/16/2011(more...)

Any doorknob can go on a hot streak especially when you mix some luck involved with it. You flip a coin 1000x sometime through that flipping you will get an extended run of all heads and all tails. What separates the “lifers” the career sports bettors is long term consistency. To state the obvious this is not a get rich quick scheme. With proper money management, discipline and the ability to handicap to a 53% win rate long term profits season after season year after year will be grinded out. How much profits in absolute dollars will depend on your unit.
