Most of you I am sure have heard the phrase “trust your instincts” This is awful advice for the sports bettor especially a beginner. The newcomer either has no instincts or cannot depend on the few instincts he does possess. The instincts are usually wrong and they are based on the individuals knowledge of the players and the sport he is attempting to handicap. Realize your knowledge of a particular sport from a fans standpoint DOES NOT translate to a successful handicapper.

Are you getting the best line if you are betting these picks, are you getting the most up to date information on this game. Of course not ! However it does make the touts lives a whole lot easier.

~Value~Have you ever been tempted to make a major personal purchase knowing you are paying way too much for this item? The same principle holds true for sports investing. If you “like” a particular team but you bet in to a bad line (over-priced) you will NOT profit long term. That is what value handicapping is all about. Betting the right team at the right price. You cannot have one without the other. If you have no edge in a given game then your optimal bet size is ZERO. No edge means no bet. Sports bettors lose money mainly because they bet on games that are properly priced.
