NEVER pay for picks! Subscribers that have been with me many years know that I harp on this issue all the time. However despite me doing this I am constantly receiving emails from people and the horror stories of how they have been ripped off by a tout. I will NEVER charge for picks. Not that I cannot. I have been offered many opportunities to do so and frankly I could make much more money.

We all know in sports betting there are NO situations that work all the time. There are also NO situations on their own without other reasons that would constitute a bet. Finding a spot that consistently wins 55% of the time well that is something to focus on.

The NHL regular season gets underway. For those of you that have been following me for a while this Grapevine will act a reminder for those of you new please take note. As detailed on the NHL page of my website, ALL NHL bets are for regulation time ONLY. I am not interested in risking money on a 4 on 4 overtime which is basically shinny or even worse a shootout which is nothing more than a glorified skills competition. Could you imagine an MLB game tied being decided by a home run hitting contest because that is the equivalent.

Football is now nicely underway and this is the time of year when all the scum comes to the surface in full force. I am referring to TOUTS professional frauds trying to separate you from your money. Markets fast talkers NOT sports bettors or handicappers. I will NEVER NEVER recommend anyone EVER pay money for sports selections. A person selling picks is always under pressure to post picks regardless if that pick has value or not. After all that is how they make money. A rare legitimate handicapper can help put you on a few more winners and help you avoid some more losers.

You often hear these terms talked about but what do they mean? A unit is the amount that you RISK on each play. I want to stress the word RISK. It is not how much you will win on each pick but how much you are exposed to lose. For example a game at -1.10 you will be risking 1.0 unit to win 0.91 units (1.00 ÷ 1.10 = 0.91). Conversely if the game is + 1.35 you are risking 1.0 unit to win 1.35 units (1.00 x 1.35 = 1.35). Got it. Good.

There are many similarities handicapping NCAAF and NFL as well there are many differences. Much like starting pitchers in baseball the QB in football can make or break your bets.

Betting baseball in September is a different animal than the rest of the year. Look for pitchers that have run out of gas. This usually coincides with the amount of innings they have pitched on the year and it usually occurs at a number they have never crossed before. Conversely look for pitchers with fresh arms that have low innings pitched maybe due to injury earlier in the year.
