• There is no such thing as a sure thing for any one particular sporting event. You many have many many compelling reasons to bet a particular side but do not allow that to force you away from proper money management principles.

It took a little longer than I would have hoped and it had been a number of years since we had changed the look and flow of the site. Based on your feedback and suggestions here we are. Of course does not matter how great a site it is most importantly is winning picks and making money. However the new look and style should help all to navigate through the pages. I would suggest all of you re-review the fundamentals page and read a brand new page called FAQ.

Every year I am asked for advice regarding filling out your brackets and pools for the NCAAB tournament. Not only is March madness great and presents us with betting opportunities but it also means baseball is about to begin. Let me get the most obvious statement out of the way first. When filling out your brackets the MOST important thing is to pick the eventual champion. Start at the end of your bracket and work backwards. Most pools are weighted to the elite 8 and beyond.

Obviously filling out a bracket is a different beast than handicapping individual games of the tournament with point spreads. Next week’s grapevine I will help you with your bracket this week we will deal with the spreads. 1) Forget about the conference tournaments underway. March madness is a different beast. There is no carryover of momentum for teams that performed well in those tournaments. In fact some coaches could care less about those tournaments and focus on getting their teams ready for the big dance. 2) March madness games are held on neutral courts or are they?

I am sure most of you have heard the phrase the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.
So how does this relate to sports betting? Well as I have mentioned often it is very important to evaluate as objectively as possible your bets after the fact.

Answer is NO! It is never a bad time to talk baseball. Do you realize pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training this week? In my opinion no other sport has a greater anticipation for opening day than major league baseball. The beginning of spring the day in day out 162 game marathon over the hot summer months that make up the season concluding with the drama of the fall classic. Yes I am an admitted seam head.

I am not trying to put a damper on your enthusiasm however the Super Bowl is 1 game the last game of this football year. However regardless of the fact it is the Super Bowl you still just risk 1 unit.
I draw the comparison to New Year’s Eve where everyone comes out to party. Everyone has an opinion and in some fashion or another bets the Super Bowl. For yourself it is just 1 bet over the course of 1.000’s that you make through the year.

1)Being undercapitalized. Do not be disillusioned to think you can make a full time living on a minimal bankroll.
2)Not having enough sports book accounts funded whereby you are not getting the best number available. Betting -1.20 when -1.14 is available is just burning money.
3)Not following proper money management procedures. There is no such thing as a lock in this business. Anything can and will happen on any given game or day. RISKING more than 2% of your bankroll on a game will guarantee you will not be able to stay in this business long term.

Handicapping is a constantly evolving process. Year by year season by season even game by game. Rules change market perceptions change sports book strategies change. The only constant is change.
Some people are under the impression handicapping is nothing more than a number crunching formula driven exercise which punches out plays. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the better team or better pitcher won and covered every game we would all be rich.
