We will use NCAAB as the focus today since this season is a few weeks old but the concept applies to every sport.
There are 351 division 1 basketball teams. 47 of them have a new coach. That is a huge 13.3% turnover in just 1 year.
The task is to analyze weigh the impact of each of these changes on the respective teams.
Bruce Pearl is a good example we played on him with Auburn the first night and got a push. This team underachieved last year hence the coaching change. The team not that talented did play hard. In addition typical Bruce Pearl style this will be a trapping press team. A totally different style than the way this team played last year.
In football both college and pro do not ignore changes at the coordinator level. Those changes can have even a bigger impact than at head coach.
When you are analyzing a game in any sport you are never finished until you have analyzed the coaches. How does the coach handle the role of a big lead or being far behind? What is his rotation like? How serious does he take the regular season? Is he a better in game manager than the opposing coach? For example it is widely agreed Popovich is the best in the NBA Showwalter is one of the best at handling a bullpen etc etc.
