The recreational bettor although much more astute than 10-15 years ago still falls victim to a common mistake. Over betting highly publicized games like the Super Bowl, March Madness, NCAAF bowl games etc etc. If you are in this purely for entertainment that is one thing if you are in it to make money those games rarely will produce value.
Where is the line maker going to spend the majority of his time? Exactly where his exposure is greatest where the action will be the heaviest. Add to that everyone picking at this line for over a week before the game goes off and what you have usually is a very sharp number.
Conversely find those under the radar games ie. 2 small schools from small conferences or 1 of 10 NHL regular season weekday games in February; and those type of games is where you most commonly find value. The good news is the $1 earned on those games is no different than the $1 earned on the Super Bowl.
