Rick Steel’s Grapevine: Questions and more Questions?
Ask yourself the following questions in order to become a more successful sports bettor.
1)What do you do that other bettors fail to do?
2)What is your edge over the general public recreational bettor?
3)What is your edge over the sports books?
The secret to my handicapping is no different to a conventional business. Long hours (but I love it) hard work (but I enjoy what I do so is it really work?). Persistence Perseverance work ethic all the qualities you will find that create success in most endeavors.
In this business you must see yourself as a researcher. A willingness to dig to find the nuggets necessary to create that consistent 54% edge over the public and sports books. NOT the nuggets that are already encompassed in the line that is fool’s gold.
Yes you need some math and number crunching abilities however in order to take your business to a completely other level you need to be able to measure the intangibles. Read between the lines and allocate numerical values to issue initially that have no numbers attached to them. You must separate the relevant from the irrelevant and obviously be able to distinguish between the two. Look for information and results that the majority are not interpreting properly hence creating value in the line.
I am willing to watch sports around the clock whether I have a bet on the game or not. I watch all games from a gambling perspective; knowledge for future plays, searching for my next bet.
This is a hard way to make an easy living. Find something that you are passionate about figure out a way to make money at it and you will never work a day in your life.
