The Grapevine will contain my week-to-week sports betting analysis on the sports we handicap and the sports betting industry.

Charging for Picks 03/03/13 (more...)

Two weeks ago we talked about finding an honest handicapper to follow. Last week we talked about timing the marketplace with your bets. This week we will wrap this section off with something I think very strongly about and that is NEVER pay for picks.
I will NEVER charge for picks. Not that I cannot. I can make more money that way. I have been presented with some very lucrative offers to provide my picks for a fee. I continue to just say NO!

Timing the Market Critical to Success 02/24/13 (more...)

I am often asked why you send out new picks more than once a day and also at different times. Why not do what everyone else does regardless if they are charging thousands of dollars for their picks and mine are free. Send out ALL plays by around 11am and be done with it. It would certainly make my life a whole lot easier. I will NEVER do this because I would be doing you a disservice.

Reputation vs. Reality 01/27/13 (more...)

Bettors often fall into the trap of looking at the team name or the color of the jerseys. Just because a team was great last year or even 1 month ago is NOT relevant TODAY. Focus on current results the last 5 games in particular. Year to date stats are as useless as trends.
Analyze the game as if it was Team A vs. Team B. This will help you to set a more accurate number on the game and in turn increase your winning %.

Nevada Sportsbooks lose $5.3 million to football bettors in November 01/20/13 (more...)

Similar to most business endeavors 10% of the people earn 90% of the money. Keep in mind Nevada represents less than 10% of the total handle legally bet worldwide. Enjoy the article below.
Nevada sportsbooks continued to take a beating from football bettors in November, losing $5.3 million on NFL and college football.

That blow is a bit softer than the $6.2 million books dropped on football wagers in October and, according to the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, is a difference of more than 151 percent compared to football earnings in November 2011.

NHL Betting 01/13/13 (more...)

No the above is not a misprint the boys will be back on the ice Saturday January 19th for a condensed schedule.
We went through this type of schedule with the NBA however in the case of the NHL there will be no 3 games in 3 nights. Only 1 week of training camp that is absurd. Look for teams that have played together for a while to have an advantage early on. As the schedule intensifies look for teams that have balanced scoring and younger legs as fatigue will definitely start to get to teams that are older and have less quality depth.

New Year's Resolutions It is Not Too Late 01/06/13 (more...)

Commitment to improve your sports betting discipline can go a long way to increasing profits for yourself. So while the calendar has already changed to 2013 here are some reminders of resolutions to live up to for long term success.
1)Thou shall not force action. If you have not fully researched a game and found multiple reasons creating value; do not bet. Gut feel, arbitrarily creating a line without any basis will quickly have you bankrupt.
