Pittsburgh panthers over Boston College Eagles: Both these teams are struggling big time. However there is still a big difference in pedigree of these two and it should show up tonight. Pitts has played the 14th toughest schedule in the country while BC comes in at 46. Pitts hung tough in their last 2 against Duke and North Car they take a big step down in class tonight. I have this game at 4.5 giving us excellent value.
Los Angeles Kings over Tampa Bay Lightning 1st 60 Minutes ONLY: Lak are coming off a 5-0 loss to Wash and that partially has this line lower than it should be. Lak outshot Wash that game 38-20 and have outshot their last 8 opponents. Tb is 3-7 in their last 10 they are not in good form. I have this game at 1.18 giving us excellent value.
Brooklyn Nets over Charlotte Hornets: Brklyn is the worst team in the NBA and it is not even close. Now that we have that out of the way let’s deal with tonight. Brklyn is 2-22 s/u on the road WOW! But they are a respectable 11-10-3 which means when you bet against them you are usually paying a premium when you do cover. Brylyn takes way too many if 3’s if they hit an OK % tonight and combine that with Lopez dominating the middle we will cover easily. Charl is breaking in their new center so Lopez should have a big night if Nets play it right.
New England Patriots over Atlanta Falcons: This bet takes nothing away from Atl they are obviously very good especially on offense. However like most Super Bowls it has little to do with X’s and O’s. Experience in general is overblown and it is an easy angle for lazy handicappers to latch on to. However when it comes to a game like this it is relevant. It usually takes 1-2 times getting there before you can win it. It becomes even more pronounced when you go up against NE and the combo of Brady-Belichick who this game has almost become routine.
I am not trying to put a damper on your enthusiasm however the Super Bowl is 1 game the last game of this football year. However regardless of the fact it is the Super Bowl you still just risk 1 unit.
I draw the comparison to New Year’s Eve where everyone comes out to party. Everyone has an opinion and in some fashion or another bets the Super Bowl. For yourself it is just 1 bet over the course of 1.000’s that you make through the year.
Texas-Arlington Mavericks over Texas State Bobcats: On first glance this line seems high but it is not. Tex St is not a good team. This will be their 3rd straight road game. Tex St checks in having played the 324th schedule Tex Arl comes in at 145. Tex Arl is 8-0 s/u at home. Tex St on Jan 7th at home beat Tex Arl as a 8.5 point dog 81-73. I have this game at 13.5 giving us excellent value.
New York Islanders over Detroit Red Wings 1st 60 Minutes ONLY: NYI are on a playoff drive after everyone figured they were dead and buried. They have terrible home support they fired their coach released Halak and turned the net over to Greiss. NYI are 6-1 last 7 Det has lost 5 in a row. We get a med adv in net with Greiss save % 928 going up against Mrazek at 894. Lastly NYI have played the 5th toughest schedule while Det comes in at 20 making the gap between these teams even wider. I have this game at 1.18 giving us excellent value.
Minnesota Wild over Calgary Flames 1st 60 Minutes ONLY: Minn played last night in Edm and won 5-2 that is actually an advantage coming off the all-star break. Minn is 4-2 on zero days rest and are 8-2 in their last 10. Cal has not played in a week. Generally teams off that long a break are sluggish first time out. It is not like they are in good form anyway. Cal is 3-7 in their last 10. Lastly we get a large adv in net with Dubnyk who did not play last night save % 936 vs. likely Elliot at 892. I have this game at 1.29 giving us excellent value.
1)Being undercapitalized. Do not be disillusioned to think you can make a full time living on a minimal bankroll.
2)Not having enough sports book accounts funded whereby you are not getting the best number available. Betting -1.20 when -1.14 is available is just burning money.
3)Not following proper money management procedures. There is no such thing as a lock in this business. Anything can and will happen on any given game or day. RISKING more than 2% of your bankroll on a game will guarantee you will not be able to stay in this business long term.
Oklahoma Sooners over Florida Gators: We have a ranked high profile team against an unranked team at home. That alone has these points inflated. However there is more. Okl is young but they are talented. This is a team on the rise but their record is misleading. Numerous close out losses including in OT. They also lost 4 games when their SR point guard Woodard was out. Flor is strong def and this bet is not so much going against them but on Okl. Flor also has stretches on offense where they struggle. If this game is close down the stretch Okl also has he advantage in free throw shooting.
